Biographical

Patrick Chapin is an experienced arbitrator, mediator and civil litigator. He brings more than 30-years experience litigating cases and representing a diverse clientele in the areas of employment law, commericial business disputes and negligence (tort) related claims. He regularly practiced in both state and federal courts and before the EEOC and Nevada Equal Rights Commission. Today, when he is not serving as an arbitrator or mediator, serves as outside general counsel for a renown regional company and is a Visiting Professor of Law and Distinguished Saltman Fellow at the William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, teaching courses in dispute resolution and negligence.  From 2007-2022, he served on the Panel of Arbitrators for the Eighth Judicial District Court, Clark County, Nevada where he presided and decided more than 300 cases. From 2010-2022, he was a Short Trial Judge Pro Tempore in the Eighth Judicial District Court, presiding over both jury and bench trials. From 2017-20 Patrick was a Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore, Civil Division, in Las Vegas Township where he presided over thousands of cases and drafted well reasoned decisions. In 2019 he received an appointment to serve on the Nevada Supreme Court's Panel of Settlement Judges where he is assigned complex civil cases to mediate while they are pending appeal. He is currently a panel arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association (AAA). In addition, he is a frequent lecturer/speaker in the area of ADR and its related ethics. Since 2007 he has been recognized numerous times in Super Lawyer Mountain States as a highly respected and rated employment lawyer and arbitrator/mediator . He has held the highest rating for ethics and legal ability (AV) with Martindale-Hubbell since 2001 and was named to its esteemed registrar of preeminent lawyers in 2008. 2019-2023 he was an appointed member of the Nevada Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics, serving as the Committee's vice-chairperson 2021-2023.

Patrick is a passionate proponent of conflict resolution and reconciliation, whether that be before or after a lawsuit has been filed. He regularly counsels clients and private citizens on the advantages of self-determined conflict resolution. He is regularly sought out by both plaintiff and defense counsel to serve as a private arbitrator and mediator. He brings an open mind and level headed perspective to each case or controversy he is assigned.

Rates Information

$350 per hour hearing rate;

$300 per hour study/preparation rate;

$75 per hour travel rate;

7 days notice of cancellation and $250 per hour cancellation rate.
